What We Accomplished Through The Madrid Tour 2025
As a football player, international experiences offer a diverse cultural experience, one that allows players to grow with different personalities and playing styles. When players compete on tours, they are forced to adapt to teams that play in a way that hasn’t been experienced before. In turn, that gets players to think of different ways to break down defences and grab control of the match.
Through such tours, we can simulate what professionals experience when travelling for tournaments, in order to expose our stars to the realities of professional football.
At AF Global, we believe that being challenged to perform better is the only way you can grow as a footballer. By giving our youth stars the chance to perform internationally, we were throwing them into the deep end. The tour was designed to build pressure and challenges by putting players in situations that were completely new to them. By doing so, they have to put away their egos and usual understanding of the game so they can perform better.
The objectives of the tour are not just limited to our players working on their technical ability. Instead, the international tour gave our players the chance to experience the unique culture that Spain is known for. By visiting another country, players gain exposure to different customs and traditions, allowing them to gain a deeper appreciation for the world around them. Through such experiences, players can also make new friends and learn how to deal with different kinds of people, helping them grow as people.
One of the biggest problems that professional footballers can have during games is their inability to adapt to weather conditions. Sometimes, different playing conditions can put never experienced-before stress on a player’s body. Because of this, players will always be at risk of underperforming. As a footballer, it’s important to understand that different scenarios require adaptation. The UK weather prepares players to perform in a way that keeps them ready for when weather conditions are harsh and rainy. However, in Spain, hot weather conditions force players to put their current playing style aside in order to maintain stamina. Through the Madrid Tour, we were able to help players experience what this feels like through competitive matches and world-class training sessions.
Furthermore, there is always going to be a huge gap between youth development and the realities of being a professional footballer, which can only be filled when players are given the chance to go on international tours. Through their experience, our youngsters came back with a better understanding of how football is treated and understood outside of the UK.
How The International Tour Played Out
Spanish teams are known for being technically superior to most other footballing teams, and that’s the kind of challenge that AF Global’s stars were up against.
During the Madrid Tour, both our squads went head-to-head with some of the strongest Spanish U14 teams that tested their abilities in every aspect of the game. The girls’ squad played against Rayo Vallecano’s Women U14 team and Madrid CFF Women U14. The boys took on Rayo Vallecano’s Boys U14 and Unión Adarve. Through their matches against these Spanish giants, our talented players were exposed to different playing systems that needed them to reflect in order to understand competition that they’ve never faced before.
Through the tour, our youth stars also took part in elite training sessions, under professional UEFA-licensed coaches, at the world-class facilities of Spanish giants, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid. These sessions gave our players a clear view of what training environments look like at the best teams in the world. Every training drill and activity was designed to push players past their limits to build a better understanding of what it takes to perform at the top level. Furthermore, the training exposure also gave players a first-hand look at what is demanded of players by professional coaches. It gave them a clear look at how intensity is maintained throughout football matches and how small details like one’s first touch and off-the-ball runs are constantly scrutinised to perfection.
Through this tour, our players received first-hand experience that helped them picture where they stand against some of the best Spanish teams in the world.

Youth stars need to understand that, as a professional, every move they make is at risk of being criticised. That’s just the reality of being a professional. By giving them the chance to experience an international tour, we aimed to build players’ mental toughness and resilience. This gave them a better idea of the standards of focus and accountability that are expected of players at the top level.
